The Women Who Keep Us Rolling: Honouring Our Cycle Sisters Volunteers

Cycle Sisters Voluneers

At this year's Annual Volunteer Thank You Event, we gathered to honour the true heart and soul of Cycle Sisters - our amazing volunteers! The day was filled with inspiration, as we listened to heartfelt messages about what volunteering means to our team and the strong sense of community they’ve built through Cycle Sisters.

Take a moment to hear directly from our volunteers in this special video, where they share how they feel about volunteering for Cycle Sisters.

The event was buzzing with energy and packed with meaningful activities. Highlights included a fun and interactive quiz, as well as an eye-opening workshop on cycling and neurodiversity led by Dr. Saania Bhatti.

This insightful session not only expanded our understanding of neurodiversity but also highlighted the importance of inclusion in our cycling community. We’re thrilled to announce that the workshop was a step toward our forthcoming Neuro-Inclusive Rides Guide, which will support our mission to make cycling accessible for all.

As we enjoyed a delicious meal, paired with endless tea, coffee, biscuits, and cakes, our volunteers had the opportunity to connect, share stories, and celebrate their incredible contributions.

This year, we were excited to introduce a new Awards Section, where volunteers nominated their fellow Cycle Sisters as ‘Volunteer of the Year’ for going above and beyond.

The nominations poured in, full of heartfelt and uplifting quotes that truly highlighted the sisterhood and community spirit we cherish. We’re delighted to celebrate the four incredible winners:

  • Arzu: “Arzu’s passion for cycling shines through and she has been such an inspirational role model for so many women to discover cycling. She’s such a supportive team member, creating an atmosphere of joy and fun for our riders to fall in love with cycling.”

  • Fatema: “Fatema is an incredible person to be around! Her energy and positivity clearly make a difference, creating a fun and encouraging environment for everyone. Riding with someone like Fatema is both inspiring and enjoyable, as her motivation and support lift everyone’s spirits and make the experience memorable.”

  • Humira: “Humira has given so much of her personal time to volunteer on Tuesdays and on teen rides to support others. Her patient nature and gentle approach draws people to her. She has now become a Road Club leader in which I have no doubt she will excel and continue to provide the support that our riders need. Nothing seems too much for Humira. She is pivotal to the continuation and functioning of Redbridge Cycle Sisters.”

  • Nicole: “It sometimes feels like Nicole is the reason Cycle Sisters Hackney has rides! Consistent in leading on both Mondays and Saturdays, it’s clear through the beautiful relationship she has built with our riders—Nicole is a real beacon of support and sisterhood for all.”

Chair Samra Said summed up the spirit of the day perfectly, saying:"Our volunteers are the backbone of Cycle Sisters. Their dedication, passion, and warmth inspire us every day. We are so grateful for everything they do to build a stronger, more inclusive cycling community."
