Cycle Sisters is proud to celebrate the incredible achievements of six of our outstanding volunteers, who have been recognised in Cycling UK’s 2024 100 Women in Cycling list. These women embody the spirit of community, empowerment, and inclusion that defines Cycle Sisters, inspiring Muslim women and women from diverse backgrounds to embrace the joy and freedom of cycling.
We also extend our congratulations to all the other incredible women who have been recognised on this year’s list.
Arzu Keskin: Lambeth
Arzu’s journey began as a personal quest for freedom and confidence following life’s challenges. Dusting off her old bike, she rediscovered the joy of cycling, which became a transformative force in her life. Now a Cycle Sisters Ride Leader and Instructor, Arzu has empowered over 200 women to learn to ride, fostering independence and resilience among. Her compassionate leadership has built a strong, inclusive community of cyclists.
Fatema Abuidrees: Ealing
Fatema, who worked with Cycle Sisters to start a group in Ealing, is a shining example of determination and outreach. Teaching herself to ride at 26, she quickly grew her passion into a thriving cycling group in West London. Fatema has developed routes, partnered with local councils, and trained as a Ride Leader to connect women in her community. Her story of perseverance resonates with women who view cycling as an essential skill and a gateway to empowerment.
Misbah Choughtai: Newham
Misbah’s cycling journey started as a way to bond with her son and evolved into a mission to make cycling accessible for all. A founding member of Cycle Sisters Newham, she has inspired countless women through her rides and challenges. Misbah’s approach highlights the positive cultural impact of cycling, from receiving encouraging words from passers-by to training as a Bikeability instructor.
Nevin Sunderji: Hounslow
Nevin’s enthusiasm and positivity have left an indelible mark on Hounslow and beyond. A Cycle Instructor and Ride Leader, she has taught hundreds of adults and children to ride, supported women through major challenges like RideLondon, and led numerous inclusive group rides. Nevin’s impact is far-reaching, with countless stories of riders whose lives have been transformed by her mentorship and encouragement.
Ravinder Kaur Bassi: Redbridge
Ravinder’s passion for cycling began in 2021 and has since flourished into a multifaceted commitment to the sport. As a Ride Leader for Cycle Sisters, JoyRiders, the Sikh Cycling Club, and a teen mentor in Redbridge, she has inspired individuals to tackle challenges, build confidence, and form meaningful connections. For Ravinder, cycling is about the friendships and community it fosters as much as the physical journey.
Yusra Nayyar: Haringey
Yusra’s introduction to cycling ignited a passion that quickly turned into leadership. As a Ride Leader, Instructor, and advocate for Muslim women in cycling, she has played a pivotal role in promoting inclusivity and awareness. Her work extends to teaching Bikeability and organising community events, seamlessly blending her professional expertise in health and wellness with her love for cycling.
These remarkable women showcase the heart and soul of Cycle Sisters. Their stories highlight the power of cycling to transform lives, break barriers, and bring communities together. We are honoured to see their contributions recognised and look forward to continuing our work of making cycling accessible and enjoyable for all.
