Our Story

Cycle Sisters is an award-winning charity which inspires and enables Muslim women to cycle.

Our journey started in 2016 when our founder, Sarah Javaid, set up our first Muslim women’s community cycle group in Waltham Forest.  Our first group started with just Sarah, her friend and sisters in law.   Since then, we've grown to have multiple groups and support hundreds of women to cycle!

We are passionate about ensuring that Muslim women have access to cycling without having to compromise cultural or religious values.

We have developed a successful model of volunteer-led cycle groups which create a fun, supportive and empowering environment to help overcome barriers such as:

  • Confidence and skills

  • Family/home commitments

  • Financial

  • Negative cultural attitudes

  • Lack of role models

  • Logistics e.g. clothing

  • Racism and Islamophobia

  • Safety fears

Our cycle groups offer inclusive opportunities to cycle while our partnership work with local and national cycling organisations helps to tackle stereotypes and make cycling more accessible and diverse.

Our vision is to inspire and enable Muslim women to change their lives through cycling
